This may be true for some, but for a lot of us it’s legit. I think the “crush” consists of admiration, intrigue, a little bit of attraction, and maybe a little envy. The women who tell you’re sexy probably feel some of these things toward you, but it’s all harmless. I know women who have girl crushes on me, and I’ve had girl crushes on other women, but none of us are really trying to hit lol. We just appreciate the female form and know a fly @ss chick when we see one.

I wonder why do most women have these gay tendencies – like is it natural or are humans just conditioned to see the beauty in females moreso than males.
I remember reading about some female celebrity (the name slips my mind) talk about how she and her husband has figurines and statues of naked women in their house that they expose their children to because they want their children to appreciate the art of the female physique, etc., etc.. You never hear no one refer to naked men that way. Matter of fact, by media standards, it’s more acceptable to show a naked woman on cable networks and whatnot, but the image of a naked man would be considered obscene. A lot of women and damn near all men didn’t see much wrong with Erykah Badu disrobing in her video, but had it been a male, I’m sure it wouldn’t have been received the same.

I actually think women are, in general, more likely to be put on a pedestal in terms of beauty. The womanesque body is revered and honored in a way that men aren’t. @Sula–Exactly what I typed above. I think people tend to take too many things too seriously. Life is not that serious. Relax. The Champ explained quite clearly what he meant by girl crushes, and it’s easy to understand what he meant… Now if we want to get our panties in a bunch because women go gaga over other women, then I guess we shall… Some people get pissed off at a blue sky so yeah it happens…. *annoyed shrug*
I guess we read the same thing and interpreted in two or more different ways. I thought the post was about women who straight women would be gay with or had girl crushes on. My initial comment was about the verbiage “girl crush” instead of “admire” especially given that large percentage of the comments dealt with admiration.
I do believe that “girl crush” has to do with fetishization (I’m pretty sure that aint a word) of lesbianism. Maybe I’m too close to the issue because I know of at least two women who engaged in girl-girl/orgies because their men wanted them to do it. These are only two women with whom I’m good friends and not counting the acquaintances. So I do have an issue with women engaging in certain sexual behavior for men.
I’m pretty sure none of us with contrary opinions had our panties in a bunch or took this too seriously. Just voicing our opinion.

The closest I’ve ever come to having what might be described as girl crushes were over Aaliyah back when I was in college (and she was still alive) and Erykah Badu…(That girl crush may still stand). For me, girl crushes on celebrities tend to be based on appearance – I don’t really know what they’re like. It’s the persona, maybe not the actual person.
But real life crushes? I have one. When there’s mutual admiration and attraction, and she slides her arm around your waist, and pulls you close, and whispers something, well now, it makes the day very interesting.
Real life crushes > celebrity crushes.
